Jeunessima Friday Lifestyle Delights 4. Tips for busy Women over 40

Hello,

Ines here. I've put together your weekly lifestyle delights again, things I’ve discovered, enjoyed, pondered, done … so you can enjoy life … at any age.

I’m (not) eating …

Okay, I am eating something but for quite a while already I am doing intermittent fasting … from Monday to Saturday. That means I’m not eating between about 8 pm in the evening and 12 pm the next day … And no, I’m not doing that for fat loss. My main reasons are having a sharper brain, preventing diseases like Alzheimer’s and cancer, and maybe, just maybe even prolonging my life a little bit (focusing on increasing my healthspan vs lifespan).

When I’m eating …

I take time to chew my food. It turns out that our mother’s advice to chew our food well is good for our immune system. A study published in January shows that doing so, especially chewing harder rather than softer food, increases the level of T helper 17 (Th17) cells, creating just a little bit of inflammation that protects you from certain bacterial and fungal infections.

My preferred beauty tip …

One of the best tips that has proven again and again to make a huge difference in how we feel and how we are perceived by others is … SMILING. Just think about women (and men) who might be wrinkly, looking fatigued, … As soon as they break into a big beautiful smile, the world lights up around them. They look more beautiful and yes, studies also show that they instantly feel better … boosting not just their mood but also their immune system. Just try it!

I love to drink …

… champagne. It’s actually my daughter’s ‘fault’ that I appreciate champagne so much now. And reading about research that says that it’s healthy for us, including providing some bit of protection against cardiovascular and brain diseases and improving the memory (at least in rats :-O), gives me a great excuse to really enjoy this drink. And what better place to get great champagne (at reasonable prices) than here in France.
